Peter Hufnagl

Peter Hufnagl is the founder and head instructor of the Gary Lam Wing Chun school in Austria, bringing decades of experience in combat sports and martial arts to his students. He is known for fostering a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere within the school, while carefully tracking the progress of each student to ensure a personalized training experience.

Peter Hufnagl began his martial arts journey at the age of 15, starting with American Combat Karate combined with Tai Chi Chuan under the guidance of Günther Pölzer. After four years, he transitioned to kickboxing, where he achieved significant success and continues to teach today. In 1996, Peter joined the Linz Wing Tsun School under his Si-Hing, Sifu Helmut Haas, to study Leung Ting Wing Tsun. He also had the opportunity to teach at Sifu Haas’s school in Wels for approximately 1.5 years. It was through a student of Sifu Wong Shun Leung that Peter was introduced to WSL Wing Chun. In 2008, Peter became acquainted with Sifu Ulrich Stauner from Dachau, who represents Gary Lam Wing Chun in Europe. This led to a remarkable opportunity to train directly with Sifu Gary Lam over several weeks, culminating in Peter becoming the first Austrian to achieve Level 1 in Gary Lam Wing Chun. In October 2011, after extensive preparation, Peter fulfilled a lifelong dream by achieving Level 3 under Sifu Gary Lam, which is the highest attainable level in the system. Throughout his training, Sifu Gary Lam Man Hoc emphasized the importance of not merely copying Wing Chun but finding one’s own path, as Wing Chun is an intelligent martial art that encourages personal development rather than becoming a "robot" of the system. Peter's Qualifications and Training: - Level 3 in Gary Lam Wing Chun (highest level achievable) - Trained Affektkontrolltrainer (affective control training) - Certified instructor for Kickboxing - Certified instructor for General Fitness/Health - EBC Instructor - Trained in Self-defense seminars both in Austria and abroad - Leung Ting Wing Tsun (Level 1 and 2 instructor certifications) - Tai Chi relaxation instructor - Einsatzgruppenleiter at the BMJ (Federal Ministry of Justice, Austria) Peter's experience and teaching philosophy are rooted in the belief that Wing Chun is a constantly evolving martial art, and his dedication to both personal growth and student development remains a central aspect of his approach.
