My Sigung Pete A. Maguadog was a student of Sijo Wong Yim You, who was studied directly from Chan Wah Shun, who was Great Grandmaster Ip Man. Sijo Wong Yim You believed in a traditional teaching according to my sifu. Sijo Wong Yim You would not let anyone entering the official kwoon until she or he had proved the self worthiness, which it was at his decision. It can be as long as three to six months or never at all. First, characters were the most important before acceptance into his kwoon.
