Chan Chee Man was born in 1936 in Hong Kong. He started his training in two southern Chinese styles: Hung Gar and Choy Lee Fut. Around 1954 his friend William Cheung introduced him to Ving Tsun and to the man who would become his teacher: Yip Man. He spent years studying Ving Tsun at the Restaurant Worker's Union. His love for Ving Tsun meant that he was always asking Yip Man about the movements of the forms and the intentions behind each movement. Therefore, to get as much information as possible, he would accompany him home and make him tea while to ask him any doubt and watched Yip Man training in his home. After watching everything Yip Man did, he would always ask him why he did each movement. He loved Ving Tsun and Yip Man, and after Yip Man's death he taught the Ving Tsun that Yip Man taught him, without any modification. Out of respect for Ving Tsun and his late master. Chan Chee Man, after his classes with Yip Man and his teachings at home, always met his friends: William Cheung, Wong Shun Leung, Wu Chu Nam and Bruce Lee to train. Chan Chee Man had 4 students: José Ortiz, José Manjón, Jesús Carballo and Óscar Fernández.
