In 2004 after trying out a few different martial arts schools in town, Colin was convinced by a good friend to try out a class at the Sunny Tang Ottawa School, where they teach the art of Ving Tsun Kung Fu. After only 2 classes he realized that this art was exactly what he was looking for. Having done the "belt race" in his younger days, Colin decided to take a different approach to this art. Instead of just learning the requirements and moving up the ranks he decided to take it slowly and learn as many of the intricate details as possible. Over the years Colin would travel to Montreal and Toronto for work. While there he was fortunate to have the opportunity to train at the different schools in the family. Training alongside his kung fu brothers and sisters, under the watchful eye of his Sifu, Master Walter Jakimczuk, Colin earned his black sash in the spring of 2010. In 2011 Colin learned that he was being relocated for work to North Bay Ontario. After speaking to his Sifu about this, Colin was given the blessing to open up his own school. Colin then spoke to his Sigung, Grandmaster Sunny Tang, who also thought that this would be a good idea. With permission in hand and an ad on Kijiji the North Bay Ving Tsun school was born. In 2013 Colin was honoured to receive his gold sash (instructor certification) from his Sigung, Grandmaster Sunny Tang.
